Tangent between two circles
I just can't seem to make this piece of work...
I'm trying to become a tangent line between the 2 circles, and it merely doesn't seem to snap properly?
Does the former 'Tangent gadget" still work?
(I'd have to re-download information technology)
Thanks,
Chris

Seems to exist working ok when I try it. Take you got Smart Snapping turned on?

Re: Tangent betwixt two circles
When the two circles have the same radius, you can describe a line between the two centers, then offset information technology past the radius, and the kickoff lines volition be tangent.
I'm non certain how to depict the line tangent to the two circles either. The video doesn't evidence that, and I tried for x minutes, and couldn't figure it out.

Sad I misread your mail. I thought you couldn't do what was shown in the video.

I think smart snapping is on (The second icon from the elevator, top middle) and its highlighted bluish.
This is as close as I tin can get... the blackness line, trying snaps with the tangent.
Red line is a line fatigued between centers, then offset.
Drawing a line betwixt centers gets it pretty much verbal, simply then trimming tin can be choosy some times.

I oasis't tried the tangent gadget, simply the !Belt control in the CSV parcel defines a belt-path from two circles. The straight edges are tangents.

You don't need to trim the straight lines at all with this method, just the arcs.

Re: Tangent betwixt two circles
Drawing tangents betwixt two circles is SUPER like shooting fish in a barrel with version 9 software!
ane) Depict your circles
2) Select the polyline tool and click pretty much anywhere on the offset circle vector
iii) Move your mouse to the edge of the second circle and printing the letter "t" while hovering (do Not left-click, unless y'all desire to depict more vectors from there, otherwise right-click or press spacebar to get out of vector drawing mode)
Like magic, the line is perfectly tangent between the 2 circles
(No need for the Tangent gadget nor offsetting from centers anymore, no "messy" trimming, etc)

... and that is why we should read the manuals.

Thanks mtylerfl I got it... Click the beginning circle, hover over second circle, and hit 'T'
Its been a long mean solar day... sigh.

I was pretty sure I saw this at the user group meeting, simply didn't remember exactly how.

Aye, Dan demonstrated this during his "differences between version 8.5 and Version nine" presentation.

Re: Tangent between two circles
Thought I'd add together that the tangent snapping also work with just a polyline and a unmarried circle. Showtime a line anywhere outside a circumvolve, motility the terminate shut to where you think you lot desire the line to end on the circle, and then tap T on the keyboard. You lot don't need two circles for this to work.
This also piece of work to snap tangent to sections of a circle or arcs.

That is correct, 4D. The new drawing and snapping features are "golden"! I don't know how I got along without 'em. I got completely spoiled during beta testing!

Re: Tangent between two circles
I'k with y'all, mtylerf. Aspire has become my favorite second drafting app. In fact when my students (who take admission to several other CAD packages) wait over my shoulder equally I describe something up for their projects they inevitably remark how prissy a feature or two is that they wish they had in their "other" CAD software.
The tangent snapping doesn't piece of work with ellipses. A work-around: You can snap a line tangent to a circumvolve, then stretch the circle and the line together until the circle has warped into the ellipse shape you want. The line will now exist tangent to the ellipse.
